About Charlie Smythe

Charlie Smythe is a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying Jazz - Piano Principal Study.
He studied classical piano at Leeds College of Music (Yorkshire Young Musicians) between the years of 2011 and 2014. He was introduced to jazz piano in his third year under the tuition of Dan Whieldon (RNCM).
Charlie is also an award winning song writer and has played at various festivals including the Otley literature festival. He has also performed at a wide range of venues including The Wardrobe, O2 academy Leeds, Aspire Leeds. He has been part of many projects including The Joe Lockwood Quintet, LCM Big Band and The Good Apple Quartet.
Charlie was also commissioned to write music for and play in the 2018 Apujan Autumn/Winter catwalk show which was part of London Fashion Week.
​He has also been working on his own projects including Bad Rabbit - a jazz and Latin influenced pop group that got through to the final of a regional music competition. He has also been developing a repertoire of re-arranged pop covers and originals which will feature on an album going out in 2018.
He is also featured on Philadelphia musician Andrew Loper's debut album 'Control'.
Charlie has performed to critical acclaim in venues around the UK and USA.
